A mume tree grows by creekside old;
It won’t be locked in garden small.
In deep mountains so far away it fears no cold;
It seems to shun spring’s call.

Who knows its lovely heart?
From friendship it will part.
It shows its beauty and fragrance alone,
Sought after by the moon.
