Liu Changqing: Listening to Zither Playing ~ 《听弹琴》 刘长卿 with English Translations

《听弹琴》是唐代诗人刘长卿的作品。这是一首托物言志诗，写诗人静听弹琴，表现弹琴人技艺高超，并借古调受冷遇以抒发自己怀才不遇和稀有知音的遗憾。全诗从对琴声的赞美，转而对时尚的慨叹，流露出诗人孤高自赏、不同凡俗的情操。

Tinkling, a zither, seven-stringed, is played;
Listening, I feel cold wind from pine shade.
Though I like much this old tune all the way,
Not many men play it at all, today.
